I sometimes wonder what a theoretical invasion of Switzerland would have looked like. For example, let's picture a Cold-War-Gone-Hot scenario where the Soviets decided to launch their big push into Western Europe. Most evangelical churches believe that you have to be baptized or you will go to hell. It is sad what is bound on earth is bound in heaven. We are the only church on the face of the Earth that is prepared to give everyone whoever lived a chance to be baptized. My father ( German soldier in the Africa Corps) was a POW in the US at the time. For some sort of misbehavior he ended up in Leavenworth. He assisted the “ Leavenworth 5 “ with translations trying to help defending them. Unsuccessfully obviously. He made it back alive eventually. But never forgot the terrible fate of these young soldiers!

I was the official tour guide at Ft Leavenworth, KS from 1968-71. I worked in the Information Office. I was aware of the execution of POWs in the elevator shaft at the Disciplinary Barracks and the small cemetery for unclaimed POWs. As the man in the video said, most prisoners who were executed there were executed for murdering fellow POW that they thought were traitors to their cause. After the war as many bodies as they could find relatives for were returned to their homelands. There are relatively few that they could not find anyone able or willing to take responsibility for. I'm not so sure they waited until after the war to execute them, they just classified the information about the executions from public dissemination.
